Rehabilitation
We support projects that empower burn-injured young people to lead lives where scars don’t limit their potential.
One example is the Manchester Children’s Burns Camps, which we help to fund. The camp is run collaboratively by the Burns Service at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, and a team of dedicated volunteers. These annual camps, first launched in 1993, offer a range of programmes for children and young people undergoing treatment at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.
This is no ordinary holiday. The week-long stay at an activity centre provides opportunities for challenging activities like rock climbing, abseiling, and canoeing, designed to build strength and confidence. It also helps children and young people develop skills for handling difficult situations, such as dealing with teasing or facing public attention with a strong sense of self.
It costs over £800 for each child to attend the camp. To date, we have awarded over £62,000 to Manchester Children’s Burns Camp.
